How to participate to Dog Show ?

1) Your dog must be registered with the Malta Kennel Club.

Usually the breeder will register the litter, therefore the breeder is the first owner of your puppy. Once the puppy is being sold the breeder should give you together to your pedigree (if available) a "Change of Ownership Form" signed by him/her. You can obtain this from the Club Office, however the form MUST be signed by the Breeder/Owner and the New Owner to be accepted by the Malta Kennel Club. It is possible to download this form online (Club Forms)

2) Your Membership to the Club is important.

This will give you benefits like saving on the cost per Show Entry as NON-Members are differently charged. Membership Fees are ANNUAL (1st January) but if you will decide to enter your membership during any month of the year this will be calculated Pro-rata. As well you are allowed to enter the ring to show your dog and other dogs owned by Members.

3) Before the Show.

Well before the Show Date(s) you will receive a letter from the Club INFORMING you on the Upcoming Event. This letter will contain information like: Venue, Date, Time, Judge Name, Sponsor and the order how the dogs are to be shown (Show Program), as well as Show Entry Fees for the event.

4) Minimum Age (for the dog)

To participate to Dog Shows organized by the Malta Kennel Club a puppy must be at least 4(four) months old.

5) In which class my dog will participate.

The BELOW table describes the Class of participation to Dog Shows :

4 to 9 Months PUPPY CLASS

9 to 15 Months JUNIOR CLASS

15 to 24 Months INTERMEDIATE CLASS

24Months UP ADULT CLASS

6) Handling

Paid up Members are allowed to handle ANY MKC’s registered dog inside the "Honorary Ring".
